Pilot Xicheng District Section of Ping’an Avenue to Guanyuan Bridge Has a New Look

The overall planning and renovation of the pilot Xicheng District section of Ping’an Avenue, which was launched in the second half of last year, has been officially completed, the reporter learned from Xicheng District Commission of Urban Management on June 28. The safe, comfortable, green and cultural road from the pilot section to Guanyuan Bridge has a new look.

The Xicheng District section of Ping’an Avenue starts from Guanyuan Bridge on the West Second Ring Road in the west and ends at Di’anmenwai Street in the east. It’s 3.5 kilometers in length and consists of Ping’anli West Street and Di’anmen West Street. Last year, Xicheng District initiated a research on the renovation of Ping’an Avenue, and selected the 420-meter road from Pinganli intersection to Zhaodengyu intersection as the pilot section.

The renovation project is carried out according to local conditions, and focuses on displaying the unique history, culture and urban landscape of the Xicheng District section of Ping’an Avenue. After renovation, the central green belt of the Xicheng District section runs through, and a central green belt of 380 meters has been constructed on the 420-meter pilot section. The green area increases by more than 6000 square meters, which is equivalent to more than 14 basketball courts. Pedestrian crossing islands, harbor-style bus stops and trees are added. Space along the street gets renovated according to functions of buildings along the street and analysis of local users. Quality of the environment around the Ping’anli Station of Beijing Subway Line 4 is improved. The originally unoccupied space around the subway station is transformed into open green space of over 4000 square meters and fitness field of over 500 square meters. Pocket parks, mini greens, public activity space and fitness field are added along the Xicheng District section of Ping’an Avenue. Landscape of the waterfront space around Shichahai Lake is improved, and connected with the greens along the street. Moreover, historical and cultural tourist routes are developed, on which traditional landscape and modern public space co-exist.
