Cartoon Character "Auspicious Animal" Used in Publicity of Epidemic Prevention and Control
At the Shichahai Tourist Service Center on Di’anmenwai Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, two children are attracted by an anti-epidemic poster with the cartoon character "Auspicious Animal" on it, which is created based on the water guardian beast in Chinese legend.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Shichahai Tourist Service Center, the anti-epidemic poster with the cartoon character has attracted more tourists to actively scan the QR code of Beijing’s "Health Kit" for registration, and many children to read the knowledge of the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control on the poster. Moreover, the staff members of the center briefly tell the tourists the traditional culture about the Beijing Central Axis, Shichahai, Wanning Bridge, water guardian beast, etc, and the tourists show great interest.
The Wanning Bridge in Shichahai is said to be the intersection of the Central Axis of Beijing and the Grand Canal. It has a history of more than 700 years. The water guardian beast statues under the bridge have not only a long history, but also a profound cultural heritage. The cartoon character "Auspicious Animal" is used to promote the Shichahai culture, the Grand Canal culture, and the culture of Beijing Central Axis, which is a new way for bringing Chinese history and culture to people’s life.
