Hebei bangzi is the main type of drama in Hebei Province and derived from Qinqiang and Shanxi bangzi operas, which were introduced to Hebei during the reign of Emperor Daoguang(1821-1850). Bangzi Tune got its name for using Bangzi to strengthen the rhythm. It may also be found in the nearby cities of Beijing and Tianjin, as well as in Shandong, He’nan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia, as well as some areas south of the Yangtze River such as Shanghai and Wuhan. With a special lyrical quality, the Bangzi is resounding and clear in voice, melodious and sweet in music. On May 20th, 2006, Heibei bangzi was listed among the first batch of Chinese intangible cultural heritages.
