Geological Museum of China

Built in 1916, the Geological Museum of China has a collection of 200,000 items of geological samples, including superlative Shantungosaurus giganteus fossils, rare fossilized primitive birds, fossils of Peking Man, the Yuanmou-Man tooth fossil and caveman. Also on display are precious fossils of prehistoric organisms of fishes, birds and insects, which are valuable for scientific research and appreciation. In addition, the museum has collections of many mineral specimens, including azurite, cinnabar, realgar, orpiment, scheelite and stibnite bearing special Chinese char acteristics.
