With a total area of 301.57 hectares, Shichahai Area is located in the northwest of old Beijing city, stretching across Xicheng District and Dongcheng District.
Shichahai is char acterized by its long history and profound culture. Before Liao and Jin Dynasty, Shichahai had always been a natural lake in the outskirt. And it began to be reconstructed and used by people since the Yuan Dynasty. Until late Qing Dynasty, mansions and restaurants had gotten a great development here. Nowadays, Shichahai Area is one of the most important historical, cultural and scenic spots in Beijing.
Shichahai Area has rare largest natural water area in Beijing. A great number of delightful natural scenic spots can be visited here. Meanwhile, there are plenty of cultural relics here, such as Prince Gong’s Mansion, Prince Chun’s Mansion, Yiding Bridge, Drum Tower, Deshengmen Gate, and Fire God Taoist Temple etc. Shichahai has always been a wonderful place for local people to hang out since ancient times. In the past, people can float river lanterns, go boating, enjoy lotus while having a drink and so on. Now, a lot of recreational activities are carried out here, for examples, fishing, swimming, skiing, dancing and playing chess.
