Xicheng District Starts to Recruit Voluntary Inheritors of Intangible Cultural Heritage
The 7th Xicheng District intangible cultural heritage volunteers recruitment event was launched at Xicheng District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center on July 20. This year’s event will recruit volunteers for five intangible cultural heritage items.
People voluntarily enter for the recruitment. This year, the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage will personally select some volunteers and teach them their unique skills. After 24 class hours of training from early September to mid-October, outstanding volunteers will have a chance to become real apprentices of the inheritors. The recruitment will end in late August. This year’s intangible cultural heritage items include dough figurine, color-painted egg, skill in making herbal incense, Beijing-style embroidery, and Great Mercy Quan.
According to a relevant person in charge of Xicheng District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, they launched the "Folk Treasure, Memory in Xicheng" Xicheng District intangible cultural heritage volunteers recruitment event in 2014. Intangible cultural heritage lovers, volunteers and apprentices learn skills from representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage for 24 class hours. Over six years, 261 people have been trained in 31 intangible cultural heritage items, and more than 30 have become official apprentices of the inheritors.
Xicheng District is rich in intangible cultural heritage resources, accounting for nearly a third of the city’s total. Up to 2018, Xicheng District boasts 36 national level intangible cultural heritage items, 67 city-level ones, and 208 district-level ones.
