Tianqiao Sub-district Helps Disabled Persons during Epidemic Outbreak
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Xicheng District’s Tianqiao Sub-district has actively served and helped regional disabled persons and their relatives with difficulties.
In order to guarantee the basic life of local disabled people amid the epidemic outbreak, Tianqiao Sub-district Disabled Persons’ Federation has instructed social workers and volunteers to know about their needs, coordinated community services institutions and residents to look after them, and handled their life difficulties.
Because delivery men were not allowed to enter communities in the early stage of the epidemic prevention and control, the staff of communities undertook the responsibilities for delivering barreled water and take-out food to the disabled people, as well as replacing liquefied petroleum gas tank for them.
The staff members of Tianqiao Sub-district Disabled Persons’ Federation has maintained close contact with people with disabilities via WeChat, on WeChat public account, and by telephone, strengthened information communication, publicized knowledge on the epidemic prevention and control, and cared for and encouraged local people with disabilities, especially those who are isolated from their relatives.
Moreover, Tianqiao Sub-district Disabled Persons’ Federation has paid special attention to the care services for severely disabled people who could not take care of themselves, and guided the communities to make a "one-to-one" targeted assistance program based on surveys. It has coordinated psychiatric prevention and management doctors to provide medication delivery service and assistive device services for mentally handicapped persons, to give disinfection supplies and masks to the disabled people, and to provide targeted psychological services to them by call.
As the epidemic prevention and control in Beijing becomes a long-term normal, Tianqiao Sub-district Disabled Persons’ Federation will continue to work carefully and practically to help disabled persons with difficulties, and to help them go through the epidemic.
