3rd Begonia Poetry-Reading Gathering Held in Xicheng District


Recently, Xicheng District "Spring of Reading" series of activities cum the 3rd Begonia Poetry-Reading Gathering 2020 was held in the Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling, hosted by Xicheng District Commission of Culture and Tourism, the Management Center of the Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling, and Xicheng District Reading Promotion Center. This year, the poetry reading event paid tribute specially to people working at the front line against the novel coronavirus pneumonia. Since it's still during the epidemic outbreak, China.com.cn, qianlong.com and other platforms live-streamed the event online.

The "Spring of Reading" series of activities is not only one of Xicheng District's major reading events, also an important part of Beijing Reading Festival. The Begonia Poetry-Reading Gathering is a brand reading event during the construction of a good reading atmosphere in Xicheng District, as well as a new name card of the district's "reading for all" event. The two events are held together this year, to attract more citizens and reading lovers to focus on Xicheng District, pay attention to reading, and love reading.

Seven reading spaces which were newly opened in Xicheng District in 2019 were announced on the day when the two events were held. They are Chunshu Sub-district Reading Space, Mofanshuju Bookstore + Poetic Space, New Jinghua Bookstore's Reading Space, Tea and Books Reading Space, Muji Reading Space, Laidao Community Reading Space, and Dazequan Reading Space.

To strengthen the construction of a good reading atmosphere in Xicheng District, Xicheng District Reading Promotion Center was established. And it participated in the organization of a event for the first time. The reading center is responsible for formulating and implementing regional reading development plan, implementing the construction of public reading service network, planning and organizing large-scale regional reading promotion activities, and improving regional reading services.
