To celebrate the Spring Festival, a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ancient life exhibition and a the-Year-of-the-Rooster themed exhibition are on view at the Capital Museum now.
Experience Ancient Life in Three Places
The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ancient life exhibition is co-hosted by the Capital Museum, Hebei Museum and Tianjin Museum. It’s the first time in the country to hold an exhibition in three places at the same time.
The theme of the exhibition area at the Capital Museum is "Home Life", the theme of the one at Hebei Museum is "Etiquette", and the theme of the one at Tianjin Museum is "Arts". The three chapters are independent and complement each other, showing the folk customs in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, which are connected with each other since ancient times. The exhibition area at the Capital Museum is divided into the main room, the study, the courtyard, the bedroom and other home space, decorated with related exhibits, including furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties, writing brushes, ink sticks, paper and ink stones, Chinese New Year paintings, kites, tokens for recording drinks, seals, etc., which show the daily life of people living in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei in ancients times.
Welcome the Year of the Rooster
Rooster-related exhibits are displayed at the Chinese zodiac culture exhibition. Over 90 pieces of cultural relics are displayed, including ceramics, bronze ware, jade ware and paintings.
The exhibition not only systematically explains the origin, development, enrichment, inheritance and improvement of the culture of the Chinese zodiac sign Rooster, but also fully explains the cultural meaning of the Rooster from many perspectives such as folk culture, poetry appreciation, cultural relic appreciation, stories and legends, New Year paintings, ancient books and so on. It’s also worth mentioning that the stories about the rooster in the heaven, the phoenix and the sun bird enrich the meaning of the Rooster, showing its cultural characteristics—good luck, virtue and elegance. In addition, some interactive games offer the visitors a chance to enjoy traditional Chinese culture at a close distance.
