Chaqu songs was originated from Beijing in the early Qing Dynasty and flourished in the Region of Emperor Qianlong. It is very popular inside and outside of Beijing. There are three performing modes. One is that one actor is singing while playing the octagonal drum by himself and the other actor is playing the three-string. One is that two actors are singing together while playing the octagonal drums by themselves. Another is the chorus. The music of Chaqu draws from folk art, popular tune and drama. The length of Chaqu is divided into the long and the short. The short is conscious and pithy and the long excels in its lovely rhythm and variable singing.
