Beijing children’s rhymes
Children’s rhymes first appeared during the reign of the legendary Emperor Yao of antiquity. These children’s rhymes refer to great events of certain historical periods, public sentiments and popular opinions. Children’s rhymes have been passed on through the generations one after another. They are especially popular with children because of their strong local features, simple forms, harmonious syllables, and humour. Children’s rhymes are sung in 10 forms, including crosstalk, tongue twister, ballad, soothing song, riddle, counting song, question and answer song and parallelism.
