The Beijing Aquarium is the world’s largest inland aquarium, covering 120,000 square metres with a construction area of 42,000 square metres. It has world-class, advanced life-support system that uses as much as 18,000 tonnes of artificially produced salt water. The seven themed exhibition halls in the building were delicately designed to encompass seven topics of its “Rainforest Adventure.” Thousands of marine species can be found in the aquarium with tens of thousands of them either on exhibition or being raised there. By showing these varied collections of species to visitors and introducing precious endangered animals, as well as presenting excellent marine animal shows and conducting various science-education activities, the Beijing Aquarium helps to educate people about aquatic creatures and foster their awareness of the need for conserving and protecting the environment.
