308 Chinese and Foreign Choirs to Participate in 14th China International Chorus Festival
The 14th China International Chorus Festival (CICF) and IFCM World Choral Education Conference will run from July 19 to 25 in Beijing. More than 15000 members of 308 choirs, heads of chorus organizations, experts and scholars from 59 countries and regions will participate in the festival, which is jointly organized by the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Xicheng District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and China Chorus Association.
Founded in 1992, China International Chorus Festival (CICF) is currently the only state-level international chorus festival in China approved by the state council. As the largest-scale and highest-level international chorus festival held in China and even in Asia, CICF is held once every two years. According to incomplete statistics, in the past 13 festivals, the number of participating choirs has exceeded 2000 and more than 60000 choir members were involved.
This year’s festival will include a total of 263 events related to choral music including opening ceremony and closing ceremony, IFCM Choral Education Conference, master workshop, choral exchange performance, high level choir concert, new choral work concert, charity concert, and so on.
This year, the festival is cooperating with the China Children and Teenagers" Fund and four other institutions, in funding nine children’s choirs from impoverished areas to allow the children to take part in the festival and sing on a grander stage.
