Xicheng District’s Amateur Peking Opera Performers Show Quintessence of Chinese Culture
Recently, 2018 Xicheng District Peking Opera Amateur Groups Contest was held at the theater of Xicheng District No.1 Culture Center, co-hosted by Xicheng District Commission of Culture and Xicheng District Federation of Literature and Art Circles, and undertaken by Baihua Shenchu Art Troupe.
17 sub-district-level and community-level Peking Opera amateur groups staged zhezixi (short plays) of traditional plays and contemporary plays in the contest, including both well-known works and works of high degree of difficulty.
The judges of the contest consisted of 5 expert judges including national first-class Peking Opera performers and Peking Opera professors from the opera college, as well as 17 public judges recommended by the participating teams. They scored the teams mainly from characterization, pronunciation, performance skills, stage effect and comprehensive quality five aspects. There are 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 6 bronze medals and 5 excellent prizes in the competition. All participating teams can obtain certificates and support funds for their development.
Peking Opera was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 16, 2010. Intangible cultural heritage is the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture. As a district with rich intangible cultural heritage resources, Xicheng District has done a great job in protecting and carrying forward intangible cultural heritage. In recent years, Xicheng District has organized diverse and colorful activities to attract more people to understand and fall in love with Peking Opera. More and more people get to pay attention to Peking Opera, and more and more people start to enjoy Peking Opera in theaters.
