Leninsky, Minsk Becomes Xicheng District’s 20th Sister City
A delegation from Leninsky District, Minsk, Belarus, led by District Mayor Shostak Peter Nikolaevich, visited Xicheng District, Beijing on May 29. Secretary of Beijing Xicheng District Committee of the Communist Party of China Lu Yingchuan and District Mayor of Xicheng District People’s Government Wang Shaofeng met the guests respectively.
Lu Yingchuan gave the delegation a warm reception, and briefed them on Xicheng District’s politics, economy and culture. He said both districts are located in the center of their respective capitals. They are the seats of the central government departments. They all have a long history and rich cultural heritage. They also gather a large number of cultural, educational, and business organizations. The two districts have a high degree of matching and have the potential to continue to develop friendly relations and form a mutually beneficial and win-win situation. He hoped that the two districts will jointly discuss the issues in development and further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Wang Shaofeng and Shostak Peter Nikolaevich signed a memorandum of friendship. Wang said that Xicheng District has always attached great importance to foreign exchanges. At present, it has established friendly relations with 19 cities (districts) in 15 countries, and has carried out a variety of pragmatic cooperation with friendly cities (districts) in government visits, medical and health care, financial cooperation, and cultural education. He welcomed the Leninsky District as a new and important partner of Xicheng District in Europe.
Shostak Peter Nikolaevich expressed his gratitude for Xicheng District’s thoughtful arrangement during the delegation’s visit. He appreciated the opportunity provided by Xicheng District for this in-depth communication, and said he was shocked at what they have seen and heard during the visit to Xicheng District in the past few days. He hoped that the two districts will strengthen contacts and exchanges in the future, deepen the exchange of experience on urban management, and carry out further cooperation.
Subsequently, the two sides discussed issues of common interest, such as education and medical care.
