2018 Beijing International Forum on People-to-People Friendship Hosted

On May 27, the 2018 Beijing International Forum on People-to-People Friendship was hosted in Beijing.

With a theme of "Promote and Strengthen People-to-People Friendship and Bonds", this forum carried out in-depth discussions and exchanges on urban governance, cultural heritage, and youth exchanges. It will serve Beijing’s world-class building of a harmonious and livable capital from a civil perspective and through civil channels. District Mayor of Xicheng District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality Wang Shaofeng made a keynote speech. The opening ceremony and the main forum have gathered 300 delegates. They are civil organizations from 30 countries include America, Argentina, Syria Lanka, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and others countries, representatives of Xicheng District’s sister cities (districts), Tianjin People’s Association for Friendship with foreign countries and Hebei People’s Association for Friendship with foreign countries, etc.

As of now, Xicheng District has established friendly (exchange) city relations with 19 cities (districts) of 16 countries, and successively held more than 30 events in the United States, Switzerland, South Korea, Australia, Cuba, Greece, Morocco and many other countries.

In addition, 84 primary and secondary schools in Xicheng District have established friendly school relations with 218 foreign schools. Each year, friendly schools have exchange visits and exchange activities. Xicheng District and the Silicon Valley Innovation Center of the United States has signed a strategic cooperation agreement, reaching consensus on cooperation in the areas of information sharing platform construction, quality capital and talent project, and cross-border exchange and training. Moreover, the Beijing Xicheng Overseas Talent Liaison Office was set up at the Silicon Valley Innovation Center to strengthen international talent exchange and cooperation, as well as promote international development of talents.

At the "Promoting the Inheritance and Development of Culture and International Cooperation" sub-forum organized by Xicheng District, guests from China, the United States, Hungary, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Nepal and India had a discussion on cultural exchanges and civilizations in the construction of the "One Belt and One Road", cultural inheritance and experience sharing in international civil friendly exchanges, development of the cultural innovation industry in international cooperation, promotion of dialogue and integration of Chinese and foreign civilizations, and promotion of exchanges and mutual learning of Chinese and foreign cultures. In addition, Chinese and foreign guests watched Xicheng District’s promotional video about intangible cultural heritage together.
