English Reader "Adventures on the New Silk Road" Presented to Foreign Language Lovers
With the theme of "Learning Foreign Languages, Promoting Exchanges, Welcoming the Winter Olympics", the 11th Xicheng District Speaks Foreign Languages Talent Competition was held at the Xicheng District Culture Center recently. At the opening ceremony of the competition, the organizer also launched an English reader Adventures on the New Silk Road, as one of a series of "Xicheng District Speaks Foreign Languages" readers.
Nearly 500 foreign language lovers from 39 teams sang songs, danced or performed sketch in German, French, Italian, Japanese and other languages, showing Xicheng residents’ talent of learning and speaking foreign language, their spirit of loving life and loving Xicheng District, and their looking forward to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. A medley of English songs performed by the Red Wall English class from Xichang’anjie Sub-district Civilized Citizen School was particularly impressive. The 14 residents who participated in the show were selected from nearly 30 English enthusiasts. They are gray-haired and have an average age of more than 70. More than half of them have learned English in the community for more than 10 years.
To mark the first anniversary of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s delivering the keynote speech "Work Together to Build the Silk Road Economic Belt and The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road" at the opening ceremony of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Xicheng District Civilized Citizen School and the Foreign Affairs Office of Xicheng District People’s Government co-launched the English reader Adventures on the New Silk Road, and presented to foreign language lovers at the opening ceremony of the competition. This reader covers detailed information about the 72 countries and regions along the Belt and Road from national profile, folk custom, travel highlights and other aspects, opening up a new window for Xicheng residents to understand various national cultures.
