The most visible change in Xicheng District's ecological environment is in the improvement of its air quality. The number of "blue sky" days accounted for over 75 percent of the total. A batch of green fields with an area of more than 50,000 square metres each have been built, while other greening methods, such as roof greening, vertical greening and dismantling walls and fences to let in green sights, have increased Xicheng District's overall green fields to nearly 8 million square metres (10 square metres per capita). Parks in the district cover more than 3 million square metres and a green coverage ratio of nearly 30 percent.
Through the selection activity of "Most Beautiful Streets and Alleys, Most Beautiful Courtyard, Most Beautiful Community and Most Beautiful Balcony in Xicheng District", residents are motivated to play an active part in greening and ecological construction. In 2019, green fields with an area of 2.3 hectares, roof greening with an area of 13700 square meters and vertical greening with the extension lines of 5282 meters have been increased in Xicheng District. 15 urban forests, pocket parks, micro green areas and affiliated green spaces have been newly built as well.
