The Maliandao Tea Street is the largest tea market in North China. Eight hundred tea merchants operating out of eight big tea shopping malls and numerous smaller shops lining the street generate an annual tea trade volume of 1 billion yuan (US$147.06 million), accounting for 10 percent of the country’s total. The Beijing Auto-Visual Building, Beijing Medicine Logistics Centre, Logistics Centre of the Xinhua Bookstore and B&Q, a “global-500 company,” can be found along the street, diversifying the tea street’s business activity as a new-type of commercial area supported by business services and cultural tourism, taking the tea trade as a pillar business, providing books, audio-visual and photographic products, medicines and building materials, integrating commerce and logistics.
